CampusCam: This all-sky camera is mounted on the roof of Bryant Space Science Center which houses the UF Astronomy Department. We use this camera to monitor the sky and the operation of the solar telescope enclosure during astronomy lab classes. The current CampusCam image will be displayed above when the camera is operating. If the sun is not obscurred by clouds it may overload the sensor and appear as a black spot.
This sample frame shows the cardinal directions in this "God's eye" view of the sky. Both DayCams share the same basic optical design. The camera is suspended vertically above a silvered "gazing globe" (actually a garden ornament). The camera lens is focused on the virtual image of the surroundings seen in the ball. |
