Advisory Council Statement
The Advisory Council's primary task is to partner with, and act as ambassador for, the Department of Astronomy in order to fulfill the research, education, and outreach mission of the Department and the University of Florida, including astronomical observations, theory and instrumentation. This may include, but is not limited to, advocating on behalf of the Department during interactions with the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the University of Florida, the federal, state, and local governments, potential donors, and the residents of the State of Florida. The Advisory Council provides a valuable resource for the Department of Astronomy with regard to their business acumen and experiences that can inform the Department's efforts to achieve practical positive results in the broader society, such as the commercialization of inventions and intellectual property in partnership with industry and the effective engagement of our citizens in the endeavor of science and engineering.
